Welcome to B’yadi Ceramics. It’s an honour to have you visit this little corner of the web and share with you, the meaning behind the name and creation of our unique tableware range.
B’yadi “בְּיָדִי” is the classical Hebrew phrase for ‘in my hand’ (Aramaic equivalent: b’yadai (plural) ‘in my hands’).
This name is inspired by the extraordinary relationship God, creator of all, has with his beloved creation including us, as well as men and women of all ages since the beginning of time. There exists powerful imagery in the Bible’s Old Testament which draws parallels between the art of pottery and the relationship between God and his people.
My favourite verse that illustrates this relationship comes from the book of Isaiah, chapter 64 verse 8, which reads:
As I prepare my clay to begin the day’s work, I’m reminded of this amazing truth. Like clay in a potter’s hands, I, and the rest of the human race, past, present and future, are in his hands.
The more I learn about this ancient art form, the more parallels I see. Just as God shapes, moulds and sanctifies his people, so a potter would shape, mould and refine their vessel.
Through this venture, my hope is not only to produce beautiful, functional ceramic pieces but, above all it is to share God, the Master Potter, through this incredible art.
If this resonates with you, I hope you will take a few minutes to explore the website, our virtual “home”, and follow B’yadi on Instagram and Facebook for regular content and updates.
